Bernhard Hartmann,  Duisburg

The experience of war as individual and cultural trauma is one of the main topics in the work of the Polish poet an playwright Tadeusz Różewicz (*1920). The present article provides a comparative reading of his short story Wycieczka do muzeum (A trip to the museum) and the play Pułapka (The trap) that both refer to the Shoah. It shall be analyzed, in what way Różewicz’s work on literary form, a crucial trait of which being the negation of conventionalized ways of writing and reading, in his drama among others aims at a specific form of remembering the past that could be located between objective and distanced "history" and subjective and manipulative "memory" (P. Nora).
