"Das war ein Stück Orient". Raum und Geschlecht in Robert Michels Die Verhüllte

Autoren

Anna Babka,  Wien

In her close reading, theoretically informed by postcolonial approaches, Anna Babka focuses on questions of the 'own' resp. 'the other' 'space' or territory, on the semantization of this space as ‘orient’ as well as on its genderization. Along central concepts like identity, alterity, center/periphery and ‘third space’the discussion and reflection of the intertwinement of sexual and cultural difference becomes productive. This 'piece of orient', this threshold space in question, finds itself always already between the two sides of a border, veiled and unveiled at the same time.
