Spiegelsplitter. Ethnosoziologische Überlegungen zum Begriff 'Kulturtransfer'

Autoren

Andreas J. Obrecht,  Wien

In the theoretical exposition presented here, we do not consider 'culture transfer' as a linear, one-sided process of "giving" and "taking", but as a creative achievement on an individual and social level within the context of comprehensive cultural globalization processes - regardless of whether these processes take place in the "poor" countries of the South or the "rich" countries of the North. Patterns of dealing with "foreign influences" can be empirically - even quantitatively - ascertained and measured. But these "artificially" generated data (typologies) provide but partial views into a colourful kaleidoscope of thousands of "mirror fragments", each of which in turn reflects one historically, socially, and economically contingent sequence according to the necessities of an individual life. If the analysis proceeds from an individual perspective, it becomes clear that in any case - following external social pressures and individual needs - people construct their modern or traditional repertoire of actions and thoughts anew from "case to case", that is, from one point of view to the next.
