Von der "Kulturlosigkeit" über die "Kulturarmut" zum "Kulturenreichtum" der "Naturvölker". Ideengeschichtliche und wissenssoziologische Überlegungen zu einer Grundsatzdiskussion in der Anthropologie zwischen 1870 und 1930

Im Mittelpunkt der Ausführungen stehen unter-
schiedliche Konzeptionen der
Vorstellungen von der "Kultur der Naturvölker" in der Anthropologie von
etwa 1870 bis 1930, wobei der Wandel der Vorstellungen von der
"Kulturlosigkeit" über die "Kulturarmut" bis zum "Kulturenreichtum"
ideengeschichtlich und wissenssoziologisch analysiert wird. Während das
von der älteren "Universalgeschichtschreibung" entworfene Bild des
"kulturlosen Naturmenschen" von der damals jungen "Kulturanthropologie"
unter Berufung auf ein allgemeines Prinzip der "Entwicklung" verworfen
wurde, geriet das Entwicklungsprinzip selbst Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts
als "evolutionistisch" in den Brennpunkt der Kritik und wurde schließlich
durch ein Konzept von Kultur abgelöst, in dem diese als historisch
entstanden, relativistisch und pluralistisch aufgefasst wurde.
The essay deals with different concepts of civilization of so called
"Primitive Races" in Cultural Anthropology from about 1870 to 1930 and
analyses - using methods of history of ideas and sociology of knowledge -
the change from ideas of "no kind of civilization" upon "very limited
forms of civilization" to "richness of civilizations". While the older
"Universal History" held the idea of human races without any kind of
civilization, the young "Cultural Anthropology" criticized that with
re-
ference to a general principle of development. This principle of
development itself was harshly criticized as "evolutionistic" during the
first decades of the 20th century and replaced by a model, that defined
"civilization" as historical grown, relativistic and pluralistic.
